Kanthapuram calls IS enemy of Islam

The year-long diamond jubilee celebrations of the Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) led by Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar concluded with a mammoth gathering at Edarikode in the district on Sunday.

Hundreds of thousands of Sunni activists who reached Edarikode from different parts of the State on Sunday afternoon turned Tajul Ulama Nagar into a white sea of humanity.

The conference released an ambitious action plan for the next 10 years amidst chanting of ‘Allahu Akbar.’ SYS leaders said that the action plan, aimed at comprehensive growth of society at all levels, including socio-religious development, was chalked out giving extreme care to the sentiments of the masses.

Inaugurating the closing session of the four-day grand finale of the celebrations, All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar condemned Islamic extremists, saying they were the enemies of Islam. “Militant groups such as the Islamic State (IS) are trying to defame a religion that advocates peace and tolerance,” he said. The Sunni leader condemned the beheading of Egyptian Christians in Libya.

Those who slaughtered children in a school in Pakistan’s Peshawar had put the sword at the basic tenets of Islam, he said.

The SYS has chalked out nationwide programmes to help the visually and aurally challenged, the differently abled, fishermen, and farmers.
