Getting a college degree can cost hundreds of thousands of Naira, yet once you are out, there is no guarantee of success, what a pretty risky investment.
Some said Buhari GMB Has no certificate, he is desperate bla bla bla... right?
What should we say of Abraham Lincoln. A great example of persistence and desperation like Buhari GMB. If you want to learn about somebody who didn't quit, look no further.
Abraham Lincoln was born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost 8 elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.
He could have quit many times - but he didn't and because he didn't quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of USA. He is a lawyer and former U.S. president. Finished one year of formal schooling, self-taught himself trigonometry, read Blackstone on his own to become a lawyer and never received a college degree just as people claim Buhari didn't.
After failing with business he contested for state legislature in 1832 and lost. Ran again in 1834 for state legislature again and won. As if he forgot something in government like we do say in Naija, in 1838 he sought to become speaker of the state legislature but he was defeated.
1840 Sought to become elector - defeated.
1843 Ran for Congress - lost.
1846 Ran for Congress again - this time he won - went to Washington and did a good job.
1848 Ran for re-election to Congress - lost.
1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state - rejected.
1854 Ran for Senate of the United States - lost.
1856 Sought the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party's national convention - get less than 100 votes.
1858 Ran for U.S. Senate again - again he lost.
1860 Elected president of the United States.
From this write-up let say his political career stated 1832 and was still active till 1860. Give me your calculator, for 28 years he was romancing politics because of his willingness to move USA forward. How many years has Buhari been contesting.
Another example is Andrew Jackson, U.S. president, general, attorney, judge, congressman. Home-schooled. Became a practicing attorney by the age of 35 – without a formal education.
Charles Culpeper, owner and CEO of Coca Cola. Dropped out of high school.
Colonel Harlan Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Dropped out of elementary school.
Let the wise one ponder on that. Buhari, like Abraham Linclon
